Axios Professional Recruitment is partnered with a growing, place-based K-8 charter school in Detroit, MI. James & Grace Lee Boggs School is seeking a Special Education Coordinator. The purpose of this position is to help accomplish the mission of the school, which is to nurture creative, critical thinkers who contribute to the well-being of their communities. Teachers are responsible for delivering a combination of established and self-created curriculum through collaboration and connection with students, colleague, families and community partners.

 

Job Summary:

The Special Education Coordinator will oversee and support the implementation of special education programs and services. This role requires a dedicated and experienced professional to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, foster a collaborative environment for staff, and advocate for the needs of students with disabilities.

 

Qualifications

• K-8 State of Michigan Teaching Certification
• Special Education endorsement
• Coordination and leadership experience, preferred
• Classroom teaching experience
• Humility and collaborate spirit

 

Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:

• Familiarity with the school’s origins, including the lives and legacy of James and Grace Lee Boggs
• Develop and implement special education programs aligned with school policies and legal requirements.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of special education services.
• Ensure Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are developed, implemented, and reviewed in compliance with legal requirements.
• Provide training and support to special education teachers and general education staff.
• Facilitate professional development opportunities focused on special education best practices.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support students' educational needs.
• Advocate for the resources and supports necessary to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
• Facilitate communication between school staff, parents, and service providers.
• Conduct assessments and observations to identify students’ needs.
• Provide direct services to students, as needed, including individualized instruction and interventions.
• Ensure Special Education compliance
